Social Anxiety Disorder – A Closer Look

Social anxiety disorder is a mental illness that impacts the lives of millions of people and those close to them. For example, a person with social anxiety disorder might have a problem eating in public or being in a crowded place.

The actual manifestation of social anxiety disorder tends to vary greatly from case to case. Some people facing social anxiety disorder might be afraid of speaking on the telephone, dating, driving a car or attending parties. In extreme cases of social anxiety disorder, the condition infiltrates all aspects of life.

A person with severe social anxiety disorder might fear going to school, trying to go to work or even going out of the house for a movie or going shopping. While all forms of social anxiety disorder hamper a person’s ability to live life to the fullest, those who suffer from extreme cases often cordon themselves off from life almost entirely.

To stop the symptoms from happening and to prevent embarrassment, people with social anxiety disorder often do anything they can to keep themselves away from triggers. People who are close to those with social anxiety problems are generally advised to offer lots of support and exercise patience.

Social anxiety disorder is quite often very treatable. People with the condition can seek counseling, take medications and work to overcome their fears. As is the case with all anxiety disorders, however, this is a serious condition that isn’t necessarily recovered from immediately and will require time and hard work on the part of the sufferer.

Colon Cleanser: My Way To Better Health

I recently learned about the idea of cleansing the colon and started looking for a site that has good information about how to colon cleanse and maybe some product information. Fortunately, I arrived at a good website that has both; a bunch of articles on colon cleansing and even lists product data.

One article that got my attention is one that talks about different colon cleanser choices. I never realized it was more complex than just making a laxative, which by the way is not recommended. There is more to cleansing the colon than just going to can more frequently. That and possibly end up hooked on laxatives in the long term.

So in my pursuit to learn about colon cleansing and colon cleansers I discovered quite a bit and avoided making a poor choice in how to go about the whole procedure. The first being the laxative thing I already mentioned. Another is to be on the look out for pills that are really just laxatives in disguise. The last thing I want is to think I’m are doing something sound and really just developing a laxative habit.

I see all the product makers hype weight loss as a side effect of a cleaning the colon. That’s not my first concern but it is a welcome side effect. Who wouldn’t enjoy a little extra weight loss in America today? If I can get fitter and lose a little weight at the same time, sign me up.

Here’s to better health, a little weight loss and hoping that this cleaning the colon thing doesn’t leave me running to the bathroom all day.

Obligatory medical disclaimer: speak to a medical professional before you dive into anything.  Be smart, your health is too important to mess around with.

More on Depression, Prana & weight issues

To describe someone once as Depressed used to be a sleight on said person.

These days the stigma is not so great- Although for men it still carries much weight. Therefore they need much more encouragement, often from loved ones, to approach professional help OR for that matter, their spiritual help from clergy, etc.

Naturopathically, effective Natural weightloss must touch upon mental health issues to be fully effective for the longterm.
Whether the weight gain itself depresses one OR depression causes the weight gain is TOTALLY immaterial ALTHOUGH IF mental illness runs in the family of the weight afflicted person this issue must be VERY EFFECTIVELY treated(See our Jupiter-of-black-mustard-JOBM)along with a workable dietary & exercise plan.
And so it is this genetic trait of Familial depression which becomes the REAL limiting factor AND ABSOLUTELY MUST BE EFFECTIVELY RELEASED AT THE CELL LEVEL for the cells to begin responding.
Physiologically we have found that the individual can exercise, they can diet, they can almost starve themselves AND nothing ‘weight-wise’ moves at all. This is where our JOBM works THE BEST.

We have found that the total hormonal system AND the metabolism becomes blocked, not able to respond APPROPRIATELY to normal weight loss stimuli.

3MindsofManWebJPG.jpg
As our diagram above suggests in the upper RHS orange section, the head-mind (Cleared by our JOBM capsules) tends to want to dominate our physiolgy. Once it does this thru depression, etc then it robs the body of most of its resources almost acting like a ‘parasite’, robbing the body of vital energy or PRANA to do its normal housekeeping.

This 3 mind model we have developed suggests our the head-mind definitely wants to DOMINATE the physical cells thus burning-off energy vital for normal bodily function.

Depression often takes on many, many forms

We all know of the classic medically depressed person: Everyday decisions are impossible to make, one feels ’stuck’, one can only see the downside to everything, energy is flat or not at all, one often feels physical aches/pains etc.

Of course what we a describing is the Medical description thereof.

  • In my 26 years of Natural medicine we would add the following to the description of depression. So if you have suffered any of the following then I would be offering you our Jupiter-of-Black-mustard capsules
    • Stubborn obesity
    • Unexplained heavy weight gain
    • Unexplained or Chronic constipation
    • All ‘-aholics’ (includes:
      • Work-aholics
      • Alcoholics
      • Food-aholics
      • Worry-aholics
      • Sex-aholics
      • except Tobacco-aholics -Try our Saturn-of-Black mustard -Yes, Chronic tobacco addiction is a ‘genetic-trait; believe it or not.
    • Bullies (Yes, bullies are actually suffering low self-esteem and depression)
    • Habitual Comfort eaters
    • Bulimia’s
    • Anorexics
    • Game-aholics such as computer games, etc.

In my clinical All the above are forms of depression & do VERY well on the Jupiter herb above. Of course, if there are STRONG signs of depression STRONGLY represented in your family lines then try our Saturn herb above to clear it’s genetic expression.

More on Obesity, Depression and Prana Suppression

A nearly 800 strong study suggests that obese teenage girls may be more likely
than their thinner peers to develop depression or anxiety disorders as adults.
Teenagers followed for 20 years, girls who were obese as teens had a roughly
four-times higher risk of clinical depression or anxiety disorders in adulthood.
But there was no such link among boys.

In an allied study, Adult obesity is known to raise the risk of a number of health problems such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease. For children, though, the most immediate consequences of obesity are often emotional and social, like not being accepted by their peers.
It’s not clear from this study why obese teenage girls had a higher risk of mental health problems later in life.
But based on other research, social stigmatization and teasing may play a role in some cases.
It also makes sense that girls would be more vulnerable than boys. Girls and women face more social pressure to be thin, and at any weight, girls tend to have a poorer body image than their male counterparts do. Still, more research is needed to understand the reasons for the link between teen obesity and subsequent depression and anxiety in girls.

The findings are based on 776 boys and girls who were between the ages of 9 and
18 when they entered the study in 1983. Over the next 20 years, they were
assessed three times for major depression and anxiety. In general, the risk of
these disorders was higher among girls who were obese between the ages of 12
and 18, even when other factors, such as family income, parents’ education and
parents’ history of emotional problems, were taken into account. Teenagers who
are concerned about their weight, or about any depression or anxiety symptoms,
should talk to their parents or another trusted adult.

Depression & obesity research study links.

The following are descriptions of just some of the research studies done in recent years.

  • In 2003, Am. Psychiatric assoc. Dr Paul Bradey found that 25% of those
who were obese AND had depression, when treated with antidepressants
lost 10% of their weight, whereas 51% of those researched lost 5% of
    their overall weight
  • DEPRESSION IN OBESITY IMPROVES WITH WEIGHT LOSS 26 September 2003 listed in medical observer weekly.
    • Australian researchers have cast further doubts on the so-called ‘fat and jolly’ hypothesis, after finding that obesity is associated with depression, and this depression improves with weight loss.
The Monash University researchers assessed 487 obese people who were admitted to a surgical weight-loss programme. More than half recorded moderate and major depressive symptoms before surgery.
When symptoms were measured again after surgery, participants — particularly women and younger people — recorded significantly lower depression scores. This decrease was sustained over the 4 year follow-up period.
One in 5 patients were taking antidepressant medications preoperatively. This figure dropped to one in 9 in the year after surgery (Archives of Internal Medicine 2003; 163: 2058-65).
‘The significant and sustained fall in mean [depression] scores with weight loss supports the hypothesis that severe obesity and/or associated conditions cause or aggravate depression,’ the researchers said.
Younger people and obese females were more likely to have higher levels of depression, but there was no association between depression scores and measures of weight distribution, fasting insulin level, insulin resistance, or diseases associated with metabolic syndrome such as type 2 diabetes and hypertension.

Prana suppression, Depression & Obesity

It has come to our attention of late that the  link between depression & obesity has been sorely missing for some years.

Yes some studies have shown mild links here but have been unsure as to whether the depression is the CAUSE of the obesity OR the result of obesity.
So cause & effect being unclear, at best, then seems to have confounded researchers & therefore clouded reasonable attacks on this connection & therefore treatments.

It is our contention that the role of depression can severely limit one’s battle with the bulge IF it is not dealt with effectively.

Indeed we would suggest that upto 51% of the obese ARE obese BECAUSE they’re depressed!

More very very soon

Obesity, Depression & Prana suppression

One of THE GREATEST UNSUNG aspects of the obese & their struggle with their weight lies in the Mental AND Emotional aspects to this issue.

Indeed one could also argue about the issues of Addiction, Depresssion & Obesity connections as well.

So, if we’re going to argue about these ideas we should first come up with basic definitions so we know what we’re all agruing/discussing in the first place.

So here goes:

Major depressive disorder or simply ‘Depression’, is a mental disorder characterized by a pervasive low mood, loss of interest in one’s usual activities and diminished ability to experience pleasure. When severe, thoughts of suicide are not uncommon often bourne out of an ability for one to consider that they ‘are-stiuck’ in the now AND cannot even distantly consider ‘a-tomorrow’ at all.

Diagnosis is made if a person has suffered one or more major depressive events. The onset is usually in early- to mid-adulthood & diagnosis is based on the patient’s self-reported experiences and observed behavior.
There is no laboratory test for major depression, although Doctors often test for physical conditions, such as hormonal or Thyroid disorders, infections (such as HIV or Spyhilis) or even Epilepsy patterns are tested for that may cause similar symptoms before arriving at a diagnosis.

The course of illness often varies widely in that it can be a once-in-a-lifetime event or have multiple recurrences. Further, it can appear either gradually or suddenly; and can either last for a few months or be a life-long disorder.
